Jared’s story
“I played football in high school and was lucky enough to be recruited for college. When I started visiting schools, my mom gave me great advice. She said ‘Go where you feel comfortable and part of the community.’ As soon as I visited USF, I knew it was the one. Everyone I met treated me so well — coaches, professors, other students. They were genuinely interested in who I am and what I want from my education.”
Jared’s life today …
- Busy. “In addition to playing football, I’m on the Student Activities Council and I’m a peer mentor for First-Year Experience. We do a lot to make the campus fun and the events are pretty popular. At Welcome Weekend we had about 400 students at a luau carnival. It was really fun.”
- Fun. “Campus is so fun on game day. Football is huge here and we get lots of fans and tailgating. As a football player, I get nervous, but love how tight the team is. We’re all in in together and as the game gets closer, there’s a sense that things are about to get real.”
- In Community. “I love living on campus. There’s so much going on and the residence halls are like different neighborhoods — each has its own culture.”
